BI Module Overview
The BI Module is used for pulling and making reports based on the data entered into the Fireworks system. This article will cover the basics on how the module works.
BI Dashboard
The main interface in BI is the BI Dashboard. It contains maps and chart representing information from Fireworks in a visual form.
- In the main feature of the dashboard is the Incident Map. The map gives a bird's eye view of the department's incidents, both ongoing and completed.
- To change the range of incident dates, click on Filter in the upper right-hand corner, change the dates and click refresh. The filter button opens the chart options menu.
- This menu is used to help optimize the BI reports to meet the user's needs:
- Chart Type- How the chart will be displayed visually: Columns, Bars or Pie.
- Order By- How the information in the reports is sorted. Either by size or alphabetically.
- Dates-What dates ranges do you want the report to use. Choose from date and to date.
- Other- Depending on the chart and the data associated with it, there may be other filters available, station district.
- Clicking on the markers to the right of the map, toggles which incidents are shown. The number on each marker shows the number of incidents that occurred at that address.
- Ongoing incidents can also be seen on the incident map. Incidents will appear on the map till either there is a clear time, or the incident is approved in the Fireworks system.
- Clicking on an incident marker opens all the incidents that occurred at that location. Clicking on Incident Report opens a detailed report of the incident.
Sometimes the number that happened will be different than the number showing on the map marker.
This is because different incident types can happen in the same location. The map marker takes the incident type with the greatest number on incidents and displays it.
Other map options include the response times map and a heat map indicating incident volume can be found in the Top BI button in the ribbon bar.
The BI dashboard also contains 4 pre-build mini charts for view specific data that is important to your department,
In the Desktop module the mini charts can be customized as well as add more charts for a total of 6 mini-charts.
These mini charts can be opened, closed, or minimized using the icons in the upper right corner of the chart.
Charts
The charts are visual and dynamic representations of department and incident data. These charts and graphs can be found in the top Bi menu or in the drop-down box on the upper left side of the screen.
On the top left of the screen is a list of charts, each report in the BI is made up of three different levels of drill down levels of data, each having its own list of data and the associated chart.
Level One- This is the highest level of the data
Level Two- This is the second level of the data. ( this means were diving a little deeper into level one.)
Level Three- This the lowest level of the data. (this means were diving a little deeper into level two.)
- Every level can be expanded by clicking on the expand icon in the upper left corner of each chart. (Blue)
- Clicking on the help icon gives a short explanation of the chart. (RED)
- Clicking on the star gives you the ability to save as a favorite. (GREEN)
Exporting Charts is done by clicking the three line in the top right corner of each chart.
Reports & Queries
BI contains a section with built in reports and queries. To switch between reports & queries you will click on reports in red and it will switch to queries in green and so forth.
You can use the search bar inside either reports or queries to filter out which report you are needing to run. Once the report is located you will have the option to set a date range for the report and run it in a excel format.
Some reports and queries will allow you to create the report in a PDF format with a department letterhead as well.
Maps
The maps section allows you to view incident data in the following forms:
- Incident Volume Map- This is the default map view when you open the BI dashboard
- Incident Response Map- Displays your responses based on pre-set time interval
- Volume Heat Map- Color coded heat map displaying your highest call volume areas as seen in the yellow circles.
- Response Heat Map- Color coded heat map showing response time to all areas of the district as seen in the yellow circles.
Favorites
With each chart, report, or query that you like or go to a lot for information, in the top left of each one there is a star icon. Clicking this will add it to your "Favorites" section.
